Dr. Srinivasan Ramachandran
Associate Professor
Profile Summary
Dr. Srinivasan Ramachandran is an accomplished researcher specializing in real-time applications at the intersection of geometry processing, computer vision, and artificial intelligence. His current work primarily focuses on innovative solutions for healthcare, particularly in real-time lung tidal volume estimation. Dr. Ramachandran's multidisciplinary research aims to enhance the precision and efficiency of medical processes, bridging theoretical advancements with practical clinical applications.
Work Experience
Dr. Srinivasan Ramachandran’s career is marked by a blend of academic excellence and industry experience, which enriches his teaching and research initiatives. Currently, as an Associate Professor at the University of Petroleum Engineering Studies, he has begun to inspire students through innovative teaching methods that encourage creative thinking and the development of their ideas.
Before joining academia, Dr. Ramachandran held a postdoctoral position at École de technologie supérieure in Montreal, where he developed a groundbreaking methodology for estimating tidal volume in infants and babies. This innovation, implemented at CHU St Justine hospital, significantly improved tidal volume estimation accuracy for adult subjects, achieving error percentages of less than 10%.
At Adventnet (now Zoho), Dr. Ramachandran was a multimedia developer who created educational games tailored for autistic children. This position not only honed his technical skills but also allowed him to engage in teaching, as he mentored students in Zoho University, emphasizing the importance of guidance and support in the learning process. Mentoring has remained a significant aspect of Dr. Ramachandran’s career since then, continuing through his subsequent roles in various companies.
His experience in industry has also contributed markedly to his professional development. During his time at KRDS as a Technical Leader, Dr. Ramachandran gained valuable exposure to multiple tech stacks and problem-solving scenarios while creating applications for Facebook, one of the leading social media platforms at that time. This hands-on experience with emerging technologies has broadened his technological knowledge and understanding of practical applications, directly benefiting his current teaching and research endeavors.
Throughout his previous roles in academic and industry settings, Dr. Ramachandran has focused on bridging the gap between theory and practice, enriching his students' learning experiences.
Research Interests
Dr. Ramachandran's research encompasses geometry processing, spectral embeddings, computer vision, and artificial intelligence. His focus on real-time applications aims to transform healthcare practices through groundbreaking solutions like AI-driven tidal volume estimation. With an eye toward future innovations, he is committed to pushing the boundaries of technology for medical imaging and diagnostics.
Teaching Philosophy
Dr. Srinivasan Ramachandran believes that effective teaching fosters a culture of lifelong learning. He views his role as not only imparting knowledge but inspiring students to become educators themselves. His teaching emphasizes project-based learning and real-world applications, allowing students to connect theory with practice. By integrating hands-on experiences in emerging technologies like AR/VR, he prepares students to excel in their fields while nurturing their abilities as future mentors.
