Hemant Petwal

Dr Hemant Petwal holds the position of Assistant Professor (Senior Scale) in School of Computer Science and Engineering, UPES. He has received his Ph. D in Computer Science and Engineering from Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology in 2021. He has expertise in soft computing and optimization algorithms. He has received silver medal for M. Tech in Computer Science and Engineering from Graphic Era University, 2015 and had secured first position in university ranking for B. Tech in Information Technology from Punjab Technical University, 2010. He is a competent professional with an enriching 2.5 years of industrial experience in data base technology. His research interest includes soft computing, optimization, machine learning. He has published 7+ research papers, articles that have been published in journals and conference with SCI/SCIE indices. Additionally, he has received two (one Indian and one International) patent grants. He serves as a member of the reviewer board of the Computer Modelling in Engineering & Science, SCI Indexed Journal, Journal of Scalable Computing: Practice and Experience, Scopus Index Journal and IEEE International Conference on Advanced Networks and Telecommunications Systems, ANTS’23, Scopus indexed Conference.

Before joining UPES, Dr. Hemant Petwal was at Bennett University (The Times Group), Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. He held the position of Assistant Professor in School of Computer Science Engineering and Technology. Before that, he worked as full time Teaching Associate during his Ph. D at Thapar University and assisted in conduction of lectures, tutorials, and laboratory sessions.  He also worked for industry (Path Infotech Limited) for 2.5 years where he held a position of Oracle developer.

His research interest includes nut not limited to Soft Computing and its applications in real world aspects, Optimization Techniques and Machine Learning.

Dr. Hemant teaching philosophy revolves around engaging students to real-world examples and providing them with valuable perspectives that extend beyond traditional textbooks. He believes in fostering critical thinking, creativity, and real-world implementation of knowledge delivered. By blending theoretical concepts with real-world examples, he aims to inspire curiosity and a thirst for learning. Through various academic tools (Like Mentimeter, Acadly), open communication and active engagement, he aspires students to get involve in a space where diverse perspectives are valued, and students are encouraged to explore, collaborate, and develop skills that extend beyond the classroom.

Dr. Hemant teaches subjects such as Design and Analysis of Algorithm, Data Structures, Python Programming, Big data analysis, Machine learning, Operating Systems.

Dr. Hemant  received Honors for securing University Ranking in B. Tech, 2010.  He also received silver medal for securing university ranking in M. Tech, 2015.

Dr. Hemant has involved with multidisciplinary teams on collaborative projects that involves the areas like machine learning, deep learning, image processing, artificial intelligence. He has published 7+ research papers, articles that have been published in journals and conference with SCI/SCIE indices. Additionally, he received two patent (Indian and International) Patent grants.
