Funded Research
UPES, with its strong R&D base and consultancy activities, has been the destination of choice for corporates who wish to conduct high quality and cost effective research in the energy and allied sectors. UPES undertakes research and consultancy projects related to the Energy and Allied sectors through its sister concerns:
  • Indian School of Petroleum and Energy (ISPe)
  • Centre for Alternate Energy Research (CAER)
  • Centre of Policy Energy (COPE)
  • Clean Green Technologies
These centres have expertise in the following areas – Retail, Refining, Storage and Distribution, Project Planning, Feasibility Studies, Market Research, Energy Optimization, Environmental Studies, Bio-fuels and Regulatory affairs. UPES has funded more than 1000 reports in these areas with active participation of its faculty, students and associates.

Some of the important projects undertaken in the recent past are as follows:

  • Installation, Commissioning and Demonstration of Integrated Bio-Diesel Plant in the State of Uttarakhand, India, funded by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India
  • Feasibility of using Straight Vegetable Oils (SVO) as fuel in IDI Diesel Engines with different blends, funded by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India
  • Preparation of Approach Paper on Integrated Development of Renewable Energy, for Emami Limited, Kolkata, West Bengal
  • Study on Ethanol Blending Program in India - BIS specifications on E10 and Introduction of Flex Fuel Vehicles in India, for the Indian Sugar Manufacturers Association
  • Conduct of Surveillance Audit, for Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL)
  • Study on Crude Optimization for Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited, for Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC)
  • Training on Refinery Operations and Management for 900 persons, for HPCL refineries
  • Set up of 150 large Format Highway Retail Outlets, for Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL)
  • Process Mapping, Certification and Benchmarking Product Terminals, for BPCL
  • Study on Crude Oil Assay, for Selan Exploration Technology
  • Detailed Feasibility Report for a Learning Centre, for Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation
